Will You Run Away with Me?

Thailand, 2014.

Phuket, Thailand, 2014.

Here I am, but here I do not wish to be.
Will you run away with me?

Shall we run far, far away
from the shackles of stilted screenplay,
from those who were ever quick to naysay,
with a maverick’s desire to prove them wrong someday.

Shall we run far, far away
till our legs threaten to give way,
till we lose all sense of time and day,
and laugh at our sun-kissed hair in disarray.

There I am not, but there I wish to be.
Will you run away with me?

We could run far, far away
to a land where dreams shine and never decay,
to a place where the child in us can come out to play,
where the air is always replete with blooming bouquets.

We could run far, far away
and everyday would be a blue-sky holiday.
We need not care if the bullets ricochet,
for you are with me and there I would stay.
